Clinical Supervision

As a certified Canadian Clinical Supervisor specializing in Addiction Counselling (CCS-AC), I offer comprehensive clinical supervision to addiction counsellors who are in private practice, or who employed by a treatment program/agency.

Clinical supervision is a collaborative process that includes observation, evaluation, and self-assessment, all aimed at enhancing the strengths and talents of the supervisee. This process also helps the supervisee maintain ethical and professional standards, which are essential for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of both the supervisee and their clients.

Clinical supervision is a crucial aspect of counselling, as it helps ensure that the services provided to clients are of the highest quality. This process involves regular formal meetings in which therapists can discuss their work and gain insights from an experienced professional. Additionally, clinical supervision is ethically important for practicing counsellors and therapists. At its core, supervision means overseeing another individual’s work.

What are the 3 Main Areas of Supervision?

Supervision falls into three main areas, with ethics being the first priority.

    1. Formative (i.e. growth-based): the supervisor shares their experience to teach the counsellor.
    2. Normative (i.e. monitoring-based): the supervisor asks the counsellor to account for and justify their work.
    3. Restorative (i.e. support-based): the supervisor offers support if the counsellor is struggling with an ethical issue or an aspect of their practice.
Individual Clinical Supervision

Individual supervision provides an opportunity to discuss your needs and experiences as a therapist, which is essential for maintaining a healthy and ethical practice. Individual appointments can be scheduled on a weekly, bi-weekly, monthly, or as-needed basis, and they are offered either in person at the office or online via video.

Group Clinical Supervision

Group supervision offers individuals a chance to debrief and grow with the support of a skilled supervisor and a team of peers. Sessions are available both in the office and online via video and are limited to four participants per session.

Closed Group Clinical Supervision

Closed group supervision is offered upon request. If you have a group of two or more clinicians who would like to schedule ongoing closed group supervision, please contact me to discuss available options.

If you are seeking closed group supervision for a team of clinicians at your practice or facility, I invite you to reach out for more information. I can arrange billing directly to the facility/agency as well as provide supervision packages.
