Individual psychotherapy offers a one-on-one meeting with our therapists. This time can be used to reflect on past experiences, examine current behaviours, and set future goals.
Therapy can assist individuals in overcoming obstacles to your well-being. It can enhance positive feelings, such as compassion and self-esteem. Those in therapy can develop skills for managing difficult situations, making healthy decisions, and achieving their goals. Many people discover that they enjoy the therapeutic journey of becoming more self-aware and experiencing ongoing personal growth.
You’ll find Individual therapy is a collaborative process where you remain in control, setting the pace of the conversation, choosing the life areas to explore, and determining what feels important for you to work on.
The First Psychotherapy Session
Your first session will be different from future visits. This initial appointment is a time for us to get to know each other and understand how to move forward. In future sessions, the focus will be more therapeutic. For instance, during your second session, you may discuss a specific symptom, issue, or past trauma that you mentioned in the first session.
Is individual therapy right for me?
Many people opt for individual therapy because it offers a personalized treatment approach tailored to their unique strengths and challenges. The one-on-one format encourages self-reflection, helping you clarify both your immediate and long-term therapy goals for treatment. Additionally, since you are the only person in the session, you have my full attention. This dynamic often makes individuals feel more comfortable opening up and being vulnerable.
It is not necessary to have a definitive list of personal goals or concerns to address during sessions; however, if specific objectives are available, it is perfectly acceptable to present them. A general awareness of the areas you want to enhance, along with a willingness to embrace new experiences and an open mindset, is all that is required to commence this journey.
Length of Therapy
The duration of therapy can vary significantly based on your unique circumstances and goals. It’s completely understandable to want to know how long it may take to start feeling better. However, it’s important to remember that there isn’t a one-size-fits-all answer. Each person’s journey is different, and it’s okay to take the time you need.
